Aqara Installer Malaysia: How to Join the Partner Program

Registered wireman fitting an Aqara smart switch into a wall back box, the day-to-day work of an Aqara installer partner in Malaysia

Answer up front — The Aqara installer partner program in Malaysia is open to registered wiremen, electricians, interior designers and security installers who already work in people's homes. Synchroweb is Aqara's official certified distributor in Malaysia, so partners get local stock, a local warranty path and a local person to call — not a grey import with a three-week wait. Application is a conversation: tell us what you install today and which states you cover.

Why we are running this locally

Aqara is a large brand globally and a thin, awkward channel in Malaysia. Plenty of Aqara products in Malaysia are bought through channels with no local distributor behind them. That shows up in the field: units that arrive with no local warranty path, firmware questions nobody in the country can answer, and a homeowner holding a device that nobody local will stand behind.

Synchroweb is the official certified Aqara distributor in Malaysia. That single fact is the whole reason this program exists. It means stock sits in Malaysia, warranty is handled through a Malaysian counter, and when a homeowner calls there is an actual person to escalate to. If you are installing Aqara equipment in Malaysian homes, that is a genuine commercial advantage, not a brochure line.

Who the program suits

Registered wiremen and electricians. You are already opening back boxes and running cable. The extra skill is small, the call-backs drop, and the margin per job improves. A lot of your existing work — fan controllers, gate motors, downlight runs, water heaters — is already smart-load work.

Electricians moving toward integration. If you are already doing a bit of home automation and tired of buying hardware with no local support, this is a channel to stock and specify through instead of ordering per unit.

Interior designers and renovation contractors. You are in the house while the walls are open, which is the single most valuable moment in the entire smart-home project. Specifying switches, sensors and a hub at that stage costs a fraction of specifying them after handover. If you can read a schedule, you can run this.

Security installers. Locks, cameras, doorbells and access control. The Aqara range covers smart locks, camera hubs, video doorbells, door and window sensors, and motion and presence sensors — a natural fit if you already do gates, front doors and condo access.

What the work actually involves day to day

Be clear-eyed about this. It is not just product fitting.

The survey comes first. Most of your time on the first job in a house is spent finding out what is already in the wall. A house can have a neutral at the kitchen switch and none at the bedroom switch, because different parts were wired at different times. You open the box, you record neutral present or absent, you measure the back box depth, you identify the circuit. That finding determines which product you are allowed to fit. Skipping it is how you end up re-opening a finished wall. The site survey method is written up here, room by room.

Then you match the load to the device. A lighting switch is not a water heater switch. A 20A device is not interchangeable with a lighting plate, and the minimum load on a no-neutral device is not a guess — it is a datasheet figure. The compatibility matrix is here, and it exists because getting this wrong is the most common cause of a return visit.

Then the settings. Aqara is Zigbee-first. A hub holds up to 128 related devices, automations keep running locally when the internet drops, and the ecosystem sits on Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Pairing a device is quick. Explaining to a homeowner what their automation does, and writing it so it still makes sense in six months, is the part that takes experience.

Then handover. Names on devices that make sense. Automations that do something the homeowner actually wanted. A walkthrough of what happens when the Wi-Fi drops. This is where the good installers separate from the cheap ones, and it is where repeat work comes from.

The skills you gain

Most partners come in strong on the electrical side and new on the rest. The transferable skills, in the order you will need them:

  • Reading a circuit properly enough to identify neutral without guessing from colour.
  • Matching minimum load, lamp type and gang count to the right product.
  • Pairing and zoning in a Zigbee mesh, and understanding where the hub physically sits.
  • Writing automations a non-technical person can follow.
  • Quoting a retrofit honestly — including saying "this one needs a neutral run", which wins the job two years later when the homeowner has not had a single fault.

None of that needs a certification exam to learn. What it needs is stock, a person to ask, and a reason to do it properly.

What we can honestly say we offer

  • Local stock in Malaysia, so you are not waiting on a freight forwarder for a single switch.
  • A local warranty path through the official distributor, not a grey import with no route back.
  • A local person to call on technical questions, in Malaysian time.
  • Product data you can quote from: spec sheets and compatibility notes are consolidated in the installer resource hub, and partner pricing is provided to registered partners through the programme.

What we will not do is quote you commercial terms in a blog post. Programme structure, any commercial arrangements and the current terms of the program are confirmed directly with the team when you apply — ask for them in writing before you commit to anything, and read them. Anyone handing you a revenue split on a first phone call without a document is not doing this properly.

Who does not fit

We would rather say no early. It is not a good fit if you want a passive product drop with no site visits, if you are not able to carry out fixed electrical work through a registered wireman, or if you are looking to relabel grey-market stock as local. In this trade, reputation outlasts a single project, and it is the only asset most of us have.

How to apply

Email [email protected] or call +603-5880 5486 and ask for the installer partner program. Tell us:

  1. What you install today, and whether you are a registered wireman or work through one.
  2. Which states or cities you cover.
  3. Roughly how many domestic jobs a month you do.
  4. Whether you already hold stock of anything, and of what.

We will come back with the current programme terms, the product data you need to quote, and a straight conversation about what the work will take in your area.
