Aqara's New Smart Lights 2026: Downlight, Floor Lamp and Outdoor Range

Answer up front — Aqara announced five lights on 4 September 2026 at IFA 2026: the Floor Lamp T1, LED Downlight T2, LED Strip T2, Outdoor String Lights H1 and Permanent Outdoor Lights H1 (100ft). All five run Thread and Zigbee and are Matter-enabled. Pricing and availability were "to be announced later this year", and no Malaysian price is confirmed for any of them — every one is a "confirm with us" product today. The products are real and documented; the local price is not.

On 4 September 2026, at IFA 2026, Aqara announced five lights. The announcement is interesting for two separate reasons, and Malaysian buyers need to hold both at once.

The first is the range itself. A floor lamp, a ceiling downlight, a flexible strip, and two products built for the outside of a house — including Aqara's first documented move into outdoor lighting. That is a lighting company addressing the whole envelope of a home rather than a single fixture type.

The second is the asterisk. At the show, pricing and availability were "to be announced later this year". Nothing in that announcement established a Malaysian price, a Malaysian launch date or a Malaysian stock position. So this article covers the five products honestly and then tells you, precisely, what is still unknown.

The five lights Aqara announced

ProductKey specifications from the announcementWhere Aqara positions it
Floor Lamp T1RGBIC colour plus up to 1000 lm white; 16-bit 5-channel chip; 18 individually controllable zones; ultra-wide tunable white 2,000K–9,000KLiving rooms, bedrooms, studies, home theatres
LED Downlight T2Ultra-thin profile; two versions — RGB CCT (2,000K–9,000K, 16M colours) and simple CCT up to 1,200 lmLow ceilings and straightforward retrofits
LED Strip T2Flexible and trimmable; 108 LEDs/m; 16-bit 5-channel chip; 18 independently controllable zones every 3 m; smooth gradients and music-synchronised effectsUnder cabinets, behind furniture
Outdoor String Lights H1Aqara's first move into outdoor lighting; weatherproof; individually controllable zones; 2,000K–9,000K; automatable by time of day, environment or other Aqara devicesPatios, decks, courtyards, outdoor entertaining
Permanent Outdoor Lights H1 (100ft)Installed once and eaves-mounted; one-tap presets; independently controlled LEDs; extendable and cuttable to fit different rooflines; year-round weatherproofAlong a roofline, on a terrace or deck

Three things in that table deserve a second look, because they are the parts competitors will skip.

18 zones is a lot of zones. Eighteen individually controllable zones on a floor lamp, and eighteen per three metres on the strip, means a single fixture can produce gradients along its length rather than one flat colour. That is the difference between a smart light that switches on and a smart light that contributes to a room.

The colour temperature range is unusually wide. 2,000K to 9,000K runs from warm candle-like white to cool daylight. In a Malaysian house this is a practical feature rather than a decorative one — a 2,000K hallway at 2am and a 9,000K kitchen at 10am are genuinely different lighting problems, and the range covers both ends.

The outdoor pair solves two different problems. The Outdoor String Lights H1 is for a patio, deck or courtyard where you want a scene you can control zone by zone. The Permanent Outdoor Lights H1 (100ft) is explicitly designed to be installed once along an eaves line, so you stop doing the annual install-and-remove routine. It is extendable and cuttable, which matters because Malaysian rooflines are rarely one length.

What all five have in common

Every product in this announcement supports Thread and Zigbee and is Matter-enabled. Aqara states that all five work with Apple Home, Home Assistant, Amazon Alexa, Google Home, SmartThings and Homey.

Dual-protocol support matters more than it sounds. Thread is what gives these lights a path into Matter and into the Apple, Google and Amazon ecosystems; Zigbee is the backbone the Aqara mesh has run on for years. A light carrying both has a route into the Aqara side and the Matter side, rather than being tied to one of them.

The Strip T2 adds one feature the others do not: music-synchronised effects. Treat that as a party function, not a daily driver.

The hub question, before you buy

Here is the practical catch. Thread devices need a Matter controller and a Thread Border Router to reach a third-party ecosystem. Aqara's own documentation states the rule plainly: adding Matter accessories, including Matter over Thread, requires a Matter controller such as Hub M3, set up in Aqara Home first.

That is the setup order that matters:

  1. Set up your Aqara hub and your Matter controller inside Aqara Home.
  2. Pair the new light into Aqara Home.
  3. Only then expose it to Apple Home, Alexa or Google Home.

Get that order wrong and you will spend an afternoon debugging something that was never broken. We have written the full rule set in Matter with Aqara: what needs a Matter controller.

A second caution: whether a given hub can talk to a given accessory is model-specific, and Aqara's own compatibility list for the newest hardware is not the same as the list for established products. Check the specific pairing before you commit to a full room — that is the argument for a site survey rather than a web order.

Pricing: what is confirmed and what is not

This is the section we will not soften.

QuestionStatus as at this article
Do the five lights exist?Yes. Announced 4 September 2026 at IFA 2026
Do they run Thread and Zigbee, Matter-enabled?Yes, per Aqara
Was a retail price announced at IFA 2026?No. Pricing and availability were "to be announced later this year"
Is there a Malaysian price? Not confirmed. Confirm with us
Is there a Malaysian launch date? Not confirmed. Confirm with us
Is there a forum trial price?Yes, but see below — it is not a retail price

On that last row: Aqara ran a forum-exclusive trial for the US, Canada, EU and UK with access prices listed as 49.99 / 29.99 / 29.99. Aqara stated explicitly that those figures "do not represent the final retail price at official launch." Forum trial shipping began in mid-October.

We are telling you this because those numbers circulate. If you see them quoted as the price, they have been quoted wrong. They were access pricing for a limited forum trial in four markets, and the manufacturer disclaimed them as retail.

For all five products in this article, the answer is: confirm with us. We will not publish a number we cannot stand behind, and we will not tell you a product is on a shelf when our local channel scan does not show it.

What this page does not claim

  • It does not claim a Malaysian price, launch date or stock position for any of the five lights.
  • It does not treat the forum trial prices as retail prices.
  • It does not claim an IP or weather rating beyond Aqara's word "weatherproof" for the two outdoor products.
  • It does not claim the lights pair with every Aqara hub. Compatibility is model-specific.

Where each one fits in a Malaysian home

If you have a low condo ceiling, the Downlight T2 is the product to watch. Its ultra-thin profile is aimed squarely at the situation where a conventional downlight housing will not fit the void above the ceiling tile. That is a common Malaysian condo constraint and it is the reason this product exists.

If you rent and cannot touch the walls, the Floor Lamp T1 is a floor-standing fixture that needs no chasing and no rewire. Its 18 zones make it a single fixture that can still serve a reading corner and a television wall.

If your kitchen cabinets are the problem, the Strip T2 at 108 LEDs/m with cut-to-length sections is aimed at under-cabinet and behind-furniture work, where a gradient reads better than a single colour.

If the problem is outdoors, the String Lights H1 for a patio and the Permanent Outdoor Lights H1 for a fixed eaves line are different purchases for different jobs. Outdoor placement has its own rules in this climate — our note on monsoon and outdoor sensor placement covers the reasoning that applies to any Aqara device sited outside.
